Our Learning

Relationships Education

Our focus for teaching relationships education is to teach the fundamental blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and adults.

This starts with children being taught about what a relationship is, what friendship is, what family means and who the people are who can support them. They are taught how to take turns, how to greet each other with kindness, consideration and respect, the importance of honesty and truthfulness, permission seeking and giving, and the concept of personal privacy.

The principles of positive relationships also apply online, as by the end of primary school, many children will be using the Internet.  We address online safety and appropriate behaviour in a way that is relevant to a child's life.

Teaching of families requires sensitive and well-judged teaching based on knowledge of a child's circumstances.  We ask that you keep us up to date with any changes at home to ensure we are able to support them in school.

Lessons are always designed to discuss topics at an age appropriate level, without sharing one specific point of view, allowing pupils to develop respectful attitudes to all.
