Sport Reports 2017-2018 Season

Barrs Court Vs The Park

First match of the season and the grass was long!  A game where passing was difficult but the team ground out a 1-0 win and arguably it could have been more.  A good start to the season.

Barrs Court Vs St Stephens

Second league game of the season.  Unfortunately we found ourselves caught on the break and went 1-0 down.  We battled back and scored an equaliser but conceded one more when we went searching for the winner losing narrowly 2-1.

Barrs Court B Vs The Park B

A tricky game against an impressive team from The Park gave an opportunity for the players who hadn’t been in a match yet.  We played with great determination and the final score, a defeat of 5-0, was unfortunate.

Barrs Court Vs Wick (Cup)

A very end-to-end game saw us go 1-0 down against the run of play.  A screamer of a free-kick from Reuben equalised for us but soon after we found ourselves 2-1 down.  We changed formation to have only one defender in the search for an equaliser which we managed to grab taking the game into extra time.  With penalties looming we suddenly found an extra burst of energy and scored two quick goals to win the game 4-2 and put us into the next round.

Barrs Court Vs The Park 14/11/17

Going into this match we had a team consisting of: Charlie(C/GK) ,Ben, Josh, Liam, Reuben, Fraser, Harley, George, Dexter and Jack. It was unknown territory for us due to the very unbalanced swamp-like pitch. With winning 1-0 before at home we had high hopes.

After 3-0 down in 10 minutes our heads dropped as we looked for a goal but it just didn’t come our way. We did improve with chances but we just couldn’t take them. Later on Charlie pulled off some outstanding saves but then came a 4th goal. We kept on going till the final whistle however we knew that this wasn’t one of our best performances.

Sport Reports 2016-2017 Season

Abbotswood 6 – 0 Win

In our team was Neela in goal and out on the field we had Macey, Eva, Rosie, Libby, Kacey, Bonney, Angel and Ashleigh

At the start of the game we were scoring goals rapidly and our goalie was keeping the ball away from our end.  At half time we were two goals up and we were all feeling confident that we could get a couple more balls in that net before the end.  In the second half we scored at a steady pace and our passing and tackling kept us in the game and more goals were scored by Rosie.  This meant that Rosie and Macey both scored hat tricks!!  These were assisted by some of the other players, as we all know it’s not always who scores, it is the team effort that helped but everyone was very happy for Macey and Rosie; it was their lucky day!  Soon after our 6th goal, the whistle blew ending the game with a 6 – 0 win to us.  We shook hands and showed respect to the other team, then walked away with the whole team feeling very proud.

Abbotswood 1 – 0 defeat

In our team were Neela, our goalie, and the outfield players were Kacey, Libby, Eva, Bonney, Angel, Macey, Rosie and Ashleigh

We had most of the possession in this game and lots of players had some really good shots at scoring but Abbotswood came back stronger than we thought.  At half time it was 0 – 0 although we were trying really hard to score.  Abbotswood’s goalie was really good.  In the game we had the ball 98% of the time but as we reached the last 45 seconds of the game, a girl with exceptional speed snatched the ball and ran the length of the pitch, slipping it past the goalie.  It was such a shame we lost this game, but we can learn from it and come back better next time.

BARRS COURT VS BEACON RISE

 (MATCH 1- Away Fixture)

It was an unusual start for Barrs Court as we had less possession than Beacon Rise. They had a positive start but they had an early goal with a pass across the box and a tap in from the back post; Jamie got a tiny touch but it still went in. We woke up a bit however they put in a brilliant cross, Charlie came to punch, and on the rebound they placed the ball in the back of the net. 0-2 Beacon Rise. Barrs Court’s heads dropped massively as the result wasn’t going our way.

Barrs Court had a lot of chances after this but half way through the 2nd half Beacon Rise scored a 3rd goal. We were unlucky to concede so we will come back next week to get a better result hopefully…

Barrs court vs Beacon Rise

On Friday 3rd February 2017, Barrs Court girls faced off against Beacon Rise. Neela was the captain and our amazing goalkeeper with Eva, Ashleigh, Rayyah, Katie, Angel, Libby and Macey.

The game started off very well for the girls but it did as well for Beacon Rise with a 1-1 score line after a few minutes.

Eva scored an amazing goal which equalled us to the opposition. Unfortunately we conceded two more goals in the first half. Neela made a fantastic save from a shot we thought was bound to go in.

After a five minute half time and a convincing team talk the girls ran back on to the pitch refreshed and raring to go!

After two minutes Macey started a massive comeback for the girls by scoring one more goal making the score 3-2. Beacon Rise scored three more goals and Barrs Court one more to leave the final score as 6-3 to Beacon Rise.

Barrs Court Blue VS OLOL

The starting line-up: Luke, Alex, Rowan, Ben, Harley, Reuben, Fraser, Josh, Maurice, Jack. We played against Our Lady of Lourdes at their home ground.

In the first game, Barrs Court took the kick off and played the ball around the back so they could put pressure on the defenders for their team. They had lots of chances to score against us but we kept our shape at the back and didn’t let them score but then unfortunately they had a cheeky shot from the box and it slid past Luke into the back of the net. The Barrs court team was distraught but we kept our heads up and try to even out the game but it was
half time.

Our Lady of Lourdes started the second half and kicked the ball forward towards us but luckily Alex intercepted the play and got the ball so we pressed down the line on the right side. Jack ran down the line and received the ball from Ben’s boot down the line and sprinted with ball but got tackled by their defender and it went out so it was our throw-in. Ben took the throw-in and blasted it into the box where Fraser volleyed it in the back of the net which meant it was a tie. The game ended and the score was 1-1!

SECOND GAME

They took the kick off and pressured our defence a lot but we kept tackling them and keeping the ball away from our goal.  Luke, who was amazing in goal, wasn’t scared and was confident that he wouldn’t let a goal in but unfortunately they had a corner and smacked it to their player and it was then when we were nervous. They passed the ball around hoping that it was their time to score! One of their players had a shot and smacked it in the bottom right corner which was unlucky. We had a few chances but we couldn’t get the ball past their defence, the game ended and they won by 1 goal.

It was a good two games, however they did score the extra goal but we were happy with the result.

Barrs Court vs Wick

A great start from Barrs Court with an early tap past the keeper into the bottom left corner with a great goal from Vinnie. The first half didn’t have any more action.  The second half involved a lot of defending.

The game ended 1-0.

Redfield Edge vs Barrs Court

Another cup match for Barrs Court and straight away Barrs Court looked shaky. That struggle soon turned into a goal for the opposition and then another goal came. As it was a cup match, Barrs Court heads didn’t drop. They wanted a goal to make it 2-1 but it couldn’t come. The first half ended 2-0.

Barrs Court really wanted this win and midway through the second half Danny got the team back in it. Then came chance after chance. Vinnie had a one on one but unfortunately his strike was unsuccessful.  Barrs Court couldn’t manage the equaliser and the final score ended up 2-1 Redfield Edge.

Mangotsfield vs Barrs Court

We were playing on astro turf and the pitch was very long and narrow.  Barrs Court were not used to this surface so they knew it would be hard. From the very start Mangotsfield scored.  Barrs Court were not at their best. Many missed chances lead to frustration as the half ended 1-0.

Once again from kick off Mangotsfield scored another goal early in the second half.  Near the end Ben had a great chance to pull one back but he unfortunately was unable to convert the chance. In the dying seconds Barrs Court had another counter attack but once again failed as it ended 2-0.

Barrs Court vs St. Annes

Barrs Court went into this game with real focus as a result of losing to St. Annes 2-1 in their last match. The first half was rather slow but Jude took a stunning effort from range which was headed onto the bar. Near the end of the 1st half it was end-to-end football.

It was a strong start for Barrs Court but an unlucky goal was conceded. A great save by Charlie but a rebound from one of their attackers. Straight after kick off a goal was conceded due to a one on one. This ended up with the score 2-0 to St Anne’s.

Cadbury Heath vs Barrs Court

Straight from kick off Barrs Court were desperate to win the match after two previous defeats. 1-0 Barrs court! A well-deserved goal from the team was very lucky but still went in. A goal clearance hit the back of the defender and went back in. The first half ended 1-0!

Then straight from kick off a fantastic goal was scored by Jude- a screamer from the edge of the box. Barrs Court were really strong and got another one from Fraser. 3-0! Then there was an astonishing pass from Danny to Charlie with a beautiful lob straight over the keepers head from outside the box. Then another goal was scored by Fraser that made the final result 5-0.

Barrs Court Blue VS OLOL

The starting line-up: Luke, Alex, Rowan, Ben , Harley, Reuben, Fraser, Josh , Maurice, Jack .

Luke, who is amazing in goal, wasn’t scared and was confident that he wouldn’t let a goal in but unfortunately they had a corner and smacked it to their player and it was then when we were nervous. They passed the ball around hoping that it was their time to score! One of their players had a shot and smacked it in the bottom right corner which was unlucky because Luke wasn’t tall enough to dive and save the goal. We had a few chances but we couldn’t get the ball past their defence, the game ended and they won by 1 goal.

It was a good 2 games however they did score the extra goal but we were happy with the result.

Barrs Court Yellow Vs OLOL “B”

Match 1

Yellows started the match. Half way through the match Troy nearly got a volley and went in. There were lots of interceptions and shots but none went in. It was 0-0.

Match 2

Unfortunately we let a goal in and we fought back and tried to get a goal in. Unluckily we did not get a goal in so it was 1-0 to Our Lady of Lourdes.

At the end of our matches we all shook hands with Our Lady of Lourdes.

Barrs Court vs Wick

From the start Barrs Court made a strong beginning. Attack after attack wore out Wick quickly. Ten minutes in Vinnie scored a goal after a heavy touch and a great pass from Charlie.  Barrs Court looked strong. The first half ended 1-0!

Then a cleared corner from Joe came to Danny on the half way line. He dummied one player then produced a wonder strike from range, 2-0! Straight away from kick off Vinnie won a tackle and ran on to score a third. A corner cleared by Joe was met by Jamie as he passed it straight through to Charlie and he lobbed the keeper to make an amazing finish, 4-0! Then straight from kick off Vinnie ran on and snatched the ball from one of their players and took one of their players on and scored. 5-0! Then with one minute of the match to go, Ben scored a cheeky little tap in. It ended 6-0!

The man of the match was EVERYONE!

Barrs Court vs St Annes

From the start Barrs Court were not at their best as we conceded a long range goal right from the start. Two minutes later a goal from a great free kick made it two. In the last kick of the half there was a free kick on the edge of the box Danny took it and the keeper saved it but from the deflection Jack had a shot and that was where he scored.

In the second half there there were no chances and it was very tight so the final result was 2-1 to St Annes.

Almondsbury Tournament

Barrs Court attended the Almondsbury tournament and our first opponents were Mangotsfield.

We had a great start with Jude smashing in a beauty from just outside the box. After the goal, the defence started unorganised because Luke and Willem had to make a couple of good saves.

Unfortunately, we conceded two unlucky and undeserved goals with one getting a deflection and the other a good calm finish. In the end the score was 2-1 to Mangotsfield.

In the second match we were up against St Mary’s Yate and it was a pretty bland match. Both teams had a few chances however there were no goals. We defended well and had some good play. The final score was 0-0.

The final match was against Holy Family and it was a successful game. Although, we were already out, we were battling to get our first and only win of the tournament. We went 1-0 up with Joe scoring a cracker into the top corner. Not long after they scored an equaliser from a cross to make it 1-1. With about a minute to go Jack did a quick cross into Jamie who finished the game off with a stunning diving glancing header into the corner of the goal. It finished 2-1 to Barrs Court.

Barrs Court Girls Vs Abbotswood Primary

With hardly any training, the Barrs Court Girls Football Team made an excellent start to the season. Rosie, the captain, led the team to victory when they played against Abbotswood Primary.

After a 20 minute wait, the girls got back on to win more. Unfortunately, we lost the next two matches.  However our goal keeper (Neela) made some outstanding saves in them! Even though we lost, Barrs Court still held their heads up high!

In this tournament there were 9 girls competing: Rosie, Libby, Angel, Eva, Ashleigh, Neela, Chloe, Macey and Kacey. Well done team!

Barrs Court VS Cadbury Heath

It was a close game between the two schools. Barrs Court had great chances however the Cadbury Heath goalkeeper was on top form. Cadbury Heath had a couple of counter attacks although the defenders stopped them from getting into the final third. The score at the end of the first half was 0-0.

The second half started well due to the fact that Vinnie crossed the ball in and Charlie tapped it in the bottom left and scored! Afterwards Jude volleyed it over the bar. With 10 minutes to go, Danny gave away a free kick. The free kick went through every one but luckily Joe cleared it off the line. It finished 1-0 Barrs Court.

Barrs Court Vs St Anne’s (Cup)

Going into this match Barrs Court knew this was going to be a tight game. From the kick off it was a very entertaining match with the ball going end to end. Unfortunately St. Anne’s scored a goal from the rebound of an excellent save by Fraser but Barrs Court heads didn’t drop. The second half stated 1-0 to St. Anne’s.

Barrs Court started very powerfully, winning many tackles and unluckily missing great opportunities. It was still really tight until Charlie played a spectacular ball with 5 minutes left and Ben tapped it past the keeper right down the middle. Extra time was looking possible. And so it came!

But then something terrifying happened, a straight ball came to their defender and he smacked it and it took a fluky bounce over the keepers head into the net. Then Barrs Court thought it was game over but Ben didn’t.  When a corner came in from Jude,Ben did a brilliant header right in the top corner. Then it was penalties! Barrs Court won 2-1 on penalties!!!

Sport Reports 2015-2016 Season

The first match for Barrs Court was against Cadbury Heath and it was a cracker .The formation was a wing back formation it was a very clever plan. Man of the match went to Jake, Connor and Lewis by Mr Walker, Mrs Ward announced that her man of the match was Jake. We got the tackles in as well as the headers. We won the game 3-1 with goals from Riley, Charlie and Connor and it was a great result. We passed it well but we worked well as a team.

Our second match was against Wick which was a cup match. It was a tough game because we were 1-0 down. However Jake scored a fantastic goal to level it. Man of the match went to Nathan since he got stuck in and passed the ball about. It went into extra time, however none of us scored. It carried on to penalties and we lost 1-0 but we were so unlucky to lose.

Our third match was against Beacon Rise, it was a league match. It was a bit of a struggle because they had good players and we had to play 3 defenders at all times. The first goal was scored by Jake, the second goal was scored by Connor which was a header straight in the top corner. Man of the match went to Vinnie for his great handling on the ball in goal. The score was 2-1 to Barrs Court; it was a wonderful and tense game but we still won.

Although our third match was a struggle this one against The Park was even more of a tense game but we won by just one goal. It was a fantastic goal from Ronnie from about the half-way line straight into the bottom corner with a lots of power. It was against the mighty Park and it was at our ground. They also had a lot of great players. Man of the match was Vinnie for making of a variety of amazing saves.

St Annes was our next game it was a close match but we drew 1-1. We went 1-0 down from a great goal by Jem into the bottom corner. However it was closely followed by a lucky goal from Charlie. It slowly creeped through the keepers legs when he went to pick it up. The man of the match went to the whole team due to a great performance.

The next game was away against Hanham Abbots. The score was 3-2 to them but we nearly pulled it back in the last minute. Connor had scored both of the goals which were amazing goals. Man of the match was Connor because of his great goals. Josh did a great set up to make it 3-2 in the last 2 minutes but we couldn’t pull it back.

This time we played Cherry Gardens it was a tough match due to them having amazing players but our passing was excellent. Due to them getting most votes for winning the league, 3-1 to us was a really good result our goals coming from Riley (2) and Charlie. Man of the match was Josh and Lewis because they played excellent although Danny and Jamie also had particularly impressive games too.

Barrs Court B- Team Rugby Match Reports

Second match:  We played Cadbury Heath and we pulled off a fantastic victory 4-3. We all played remarkably well against a strong team.

Fourth match: We played Beacon Rise and got a great score line of 4-2.  We played very well and came out with a win.

Fifth match: We played Mangotsfield and won 7-3! We played fantastically to win, especially with our amazing whole-team try scored created by fabulous passing along the line and Joe finishing it off.

Vs The Park B Won 6-0

Vs St Barnabas Won 2-1

30/9/14: Vs Christchurch Downend (Cup Round 1)

An exciting start to the season in this match. Christchurch Downend were probably slight favourites going into this match with their reputation as a good team. However, it was Barrs Court who started strongly in the game and deserved to be leading by half time despite the 0-0 score line. The goal came early in the second half when Harvey reacted quickly to a mistake by the goalkeeper to tuck the ball away. It was then about trying to hold on until the final whistle. Unfortunately, Christchurch Downend equalised with almost the last kick of the game, sending the match into extra time and ultimately penalties. The atmosphere was like a cup final but it was Barrs Court who held their nerve and won the match on penalties.

Final score- Barrs Court win 3-2 on penalties (1-1 FT)

October

9/10/14: The Girls’ Team had never played together before but were determined to give it a go at the local tournament. Despite a valiant effort and an improved performance with each match, they were knocked out at the group stage.

10/10/14: Vs The Park (League)

The game started with a lot of pressure from The Park and Barrs Court did well to withstand the onslaught for so long. It was then perhaps against the run of play that Barrs Court found themselves 2-0 up after about ten minutes of play. However, Barrs Court were not able to hold out and The Park scored two goals in quick succession to make the score all square at half time. The second half was much more even but it was The Park (and an ex-pupil of Barrs Court in particular) who took the chance needed and ended up winning the game by the odd goal in five.

Final Score- The Park 3-2 Barrs Court

14/10/14: Vs Cherry Gardens (League)

This game stood out for an exemplary first half performance which killed the game by half time. Barrs Court looked solid in defence with nothing really troubling our goal and going forward we showed great passing ability and an eye for goal. By half time we looked comfortable and deserved our 4-0 lead. In the second half we perhaps took our foot off of the accelerator slightly and Cherry Gardens came out with renewed determination which led to the only goal of the second half going to Cherry Gardens.

Final Score- Cherry Gardens 1-4 Barrs Court

November

6/11/14: South Gloucestershire Tournament

A strong performance from the team with no goals conceded but unfortunately too many draws and not enough wins saw us exit at the group stage.

20/11/14: Vs St Annes (League)

To be honest, I don’t think we knew what hit us in this match and we were chasing the game after 20 seconds following a cracking shot from the St Annes forward. We managed to get back into the game at times but St Annes always seemed in control and were always a threat coming forward.

Final Score- St Annes 5-2 Barrs Court

25/11/14: Vs Hanham Abbots (League)

A very tight first half and a good performance from Barrs Court was not quite enough to take the lead in this match and the teams went in at 0-0 at half time. The second half was much more open and it was Hanham who made the breakthrough with two quick goals which effectively ended the contest. A few more goals later, Barrs Court were able to grab one consolation goal back in a game they were unlucky not to get more out of.

Final Score- Hanham Abbots 4-1 Barrs Court

December

4/12/14: Vs Abbotswood (Cup last 16)

A game which needed floodlights more than any other perhaps! Barrs Court started brightly but could tell that Abbotswood would be a threat on the counter-attack. Eventually Barrs Court’s pressure was too much and we took the lead midway through the first half. After half time it was rare to see us get out of our half with Abbotswood bombarding Barrs Court with attack after attack. Eventually a mistake was forced and a penalty conceded from which Abbotswood scored to equalise. Barrs Court still had a few attacks to withstand before the game moved into extra time. With visibility failing fast, it was a doubt as to whether the game would even get completed but the game took a new twist as a corner then led to a powerful header from Will which regained the lead for Barrs Court. Just over five minutes left and the tension was unbearable! Barrs Court again found themselves under pressure and even had to survive another late penalty scare but were able to hold on for the victory- just!

Can we try to avoid extra time next time please?!

Final Score: (AET) Abbotswood 1-2 Barrs Court

10/12/14: Vs Cadbury Heath (Friendly)

A chance for those players who hadn’t played this season to show what they can do. A great performance from the team led to a deserved win including a cracking goal from Joel.

Final Score: Cadbury Heath 0-4 Barrs Court

January (some matches postponed due to bad weather)

27/1/15: Vs Hanham Abbots (Cup Quarter Final)

We knew, having already played them this season, that this would be a tough one. However, we had a game plan and stuck to it and within a very short time Kai put us 1-0 up. The majority of the game after this showed how well the team can work together and help each other out. We were perhaps unlucky not to grab a second goal but it was Hanham Abbots who took advantage of an unfortunate mistake in defence to equalise and take the match into extra time (again!). Extra time was very tense and it was clear that neither team wanted to take too many risks at this point. The final whistle blew and it was time for the dreaded penalty shoot-out once again. Perhaps it was the sticky pitch but only one goal was required to win the shoot-out with the others being missed.

Final Score: Barrs Court win 1-0 on penalties (1-1 FT/AET)

February

3/2/15: Vs The Meadows (League)

The weather threatened this fixture but luckily we were able to get it played with not many dates left available between now and the league deadline. Conditions were tough with our new kit probably being the main attraction of the match in what was quite a scrappy affair. The Meadows took the lead and looked as though they would hold on but a great equaliser from Harvey and a winner from Kai with pretty much the last kick of the game secured us the three points. Not a pretty performance but a victory nonetheless.

Final score: The Meadows 1-2 Barrs Court

10/2/15: Vs Beacon Rise (League)

Only our second home game of the season but one well worth a watch for any spectator! Recognition needs to go to Beacon Rise’s determination throughout the match and their never-give-up attitude. For Barrs Court it was one of those sorts of performances where everything clicked and went right. A great footballing display with some cracking goals. Hopefully we can maintain that for our remaining matches.

Final Score: Barrs Court 11-0 Beacon Rise

March

5/3/15: Vs Longwell Green (League)

A tough game against strong opponents. We started well and were deserving of our lead after scoring from the penalty spot. A slightly fortuitous finish for our second goal was followed by a first goal from Longwell Green before half time. Longwell struck early in the second half to bring the tie level but we rallied once again with a great free kick from Will and another goal before full time.

Final Score: Barrs Court 4-2 Longwell Green

6/3/15: Vs Christchurch Hanham (League)

A second game in two days clearly took its toll on the team but we continued to battle bravely throughout to dig out the result. Not our prettiest display of football but it got the job done.

Final Score: Barrs Court 3-0 Christchurch Hanham

10/3/15: Vs Cadbury Heath (League)

The final game of the season was always going to be one where the form book would be thrown out. The past three seasons had seen this fixture end in a draw as the teams are usually very well-matched. Barrs Court had to soak up a lot of pressure from constant Cadbury Heath attacks and it was a surprise that the score was 0-0 at half time. A counter-attack in the second half led to Barrs Court taking the lead against the run of play. Tom looked like he would win the game for Barrs Court with a string of great saves but in the end the defence was breached by a Cadbury Heath equaliser which was well-deserved in all honesty. All in all an exciting and entertaining match and a fair result to end the league campaign. Roll on the semi-final cup match!

Final Score: Barrs Court 1-1 Cadbury Heath

19/3/15: Vs St Annes (Cup Semi-Final)

A return to the ground where we had suffered our heaviest defeat this season didn’t do much for the nerves of the spectators but it was clear from the off that the team had their mind set on victory. Everybody worked hard for the full forty minutes and despite going in at half-time at 0-0 the team knew that the game would be theirs if they continued playing as they had done in the first half. Second half goals from Kai and Riley gave the team the win they deserved and Harvey was once again an immovable object in midfield. Through to the final and the first time we managed to get through a round without the need for extra time! Much better that way!

Final Score St Annes 0 – 2 Barrs Court

24/3/15: Vs Crossways (Cup Final)

So this was it, the end of a great season. We had just been confirmed as fourth place in the league but this was the match everyone was focussed on. The team had a great day in the build-up to the match, developing their team spirit and turning up suited and booted on the team coach. Luckily the weather sorted itself out just before kick-off and the game took place in reasonably good conditions. As the game progressed it was clear that the two teams were very well-matched. Kevin almost scored a goal out of the blue in the first half but it hit the post. Into the second half and it became clear that extra time and penalties were soon to be looming. Again, everyone had been playing out of their skin for each other and there was nothing to choose between the two teams. So to the dreaded penalties it went and unfortunately on this occasion the luck wasn’t with us. Despite this we can be incredibly proud of our achievements this season and the fact that we played our football in the right way- as a team. Well done to all the players involved and a big thank you to all of the parents who supported and taxied our players to all the games this season.

Final Score Crossways 0-0 Barrs Court (Crossways win 2-1 on penalties)
