Welcome to Topaz Class.

Here you will find out about all of the exciting things we have been learning each term, including photographs of us, our brilliant work and super displays.

There might be times during the year when you have a question or query: face to face drop in sessions would normally be available on Wednesdays with Miss Davis straight after school but due to Covid 19 restrictions, we are currently unable to offer this. Messages can be left with the adult on the door at the start and end of each day. Otherwise, please use Google Classroom or your child’s planner. If the matter is urgent, please contact the school office to arrange a suitable time for a phone conversation.

Topaz class have PE on Mondays and Fridays, children need to wear their PE kit to school on both of these days.

Take a look at our work, displays and sometimes us. Our Working walls help us learn – the content builds as the term progresses.

Term 3 and 4 – Italia/Hail Caesar

We really enjoyed exploring another European country and then delving back into the past to study the Romans. In our Geography and History lessons we looked at the physical and human features of Italy and how the Roman Empire began. We even managed to recreate our own version of the Roman invasion of Britain, including battle formations!

We used ‘Escape from Pompeii’ to write some brilliant stories and explored the text ‘Hortense and the Shadow’ to enhance our vocabulary further. In Science, we investigated sound and the human body, with a focus on skeletons and muscles. We even labelled ourselves up to show the different bones!

Term 2 – All the Fun of the Fair

In the first week of the term we raised money for Children in Need and had a go at drawing our own Pudsey Bear! We’ve really enjoyed this circus themed topic and have explored some great texts, ‘Leon and the Place Between’ and ‘Fizzlebert Stump’.

In our Science lessons, we have explored forces and magnets. We carried out several investigations including a text for friction, sorting magnetic materials and finding out which magnets are the strongest.

In Geography we found out all about human and physical features around the UK and explored the location of large cities around the country. We also looked at land use in the UK and how this might have changed over time.

During our DT day, we researched, designed and made moving picture books which involved different mechanisms and our RE unit this term has focused on why Jesus is inspirational to believers. We also had great time taking part in our whole school virtual nativity – Lights Camel Action! What a busy we have had!

Term 1 – Savage Stone Age

We’ve had a brilliant first term in Topaz class and we’ve really enjoyed our topic. In our history lessons we found out about what life was like in the Stone Age and learnt about chronology and different sources of evidence. We also had a fantastic time, designing and making our own mini Stone Age houses in our DT lessons. Also in Science, we investigated different types of rocks and learnt about fossils.

In our Computing lessons this term we have been thinking about online safety and have used the laptops to research different types of online communication. We also discussed how to keep safe when using the internet.

Our RE unit this term focused on how God is represented among different religions and we made links between different faiths and our own beliefs.

We finished the term with Arts Week! Blue Area’s focus painting was Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ and in Topaz Class we used this painting as inspiration for our own art. Please have a look at some photos from across the term. We can’t wait to see what the next topic will be!
