Our Learning

Mathematics

We follow the Mastering Number scheme of work. This national programme aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number.

Lessons focus on the six key areas of early mathematics learning, which collectively provide a platform for everything children will encounter as they progress through their maths learning at primary school, and beyond.

 Numberblocks

The NCETM collaborated closely with Blue Zoo Animation Studio to craft Numberblocks, ensuring every episode builds foundational early numeracy skills through a carefully mapped curriculum. Numbers are abstract ideas for young children. Numberblocks turns them into physical-looking characters where a "3" is literally made of three blocks.

  • Series 1: Focuses on numbers 1 through 5, introducing counting, size, ordering, and basic composition.
  • Series 2: Explores numbers 6 through 10, introduction to odds and evens, and foundational base-10 structure via Ten.
  • Series 3 & Beyond: Extends concepts further into number composition, early arithmetic, arrays, and numbers up to 15 and beyond. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
