Our Learning

Curriculum

We use the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum to teach in Blue Area.  Click the links below to see definitions that may be helpful for parents/carers.

Each term, the children have a new enquiry question to answer which allows them to immerse themselves in their learning, taking on different states of being in the process (eg scientist, geographer, philosopher etc). By the end of an enquiry, the children will be able to answer the question, drawing on all of the engaging activities they have taken part in during the term. Each term, the enquiry web will be posted so you can see what your child will be learning. Ask them lots of questions – we know they will be able to talk about their learning confidently – the children love our enquiry approach to learning!

When being mathematicians, we use the White Rose scheme of learning to ensure we cover everything the children need to know in Years 3 and 4.

We use Whole Class Reading when being authors where we discuss texts and other reading skills such as vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation and retrieval skills.

When learning to spell, we use 'Spelling Shed', which involves teaching children the relationship between sounds and written symbols (phonics) as well as using morphology to help children to spell through meaning. This balance strengthens spelling skills and builds vocabulary acquisition.
