What have the Eco team been working on in the Autumn Term?

We were delighted to begin the year by receiving our Green Flag award for 2022-2023! In September, children in each class who wanted to take on the role of an Eco Representative nominated themselves. Following this, a whole class vote took place. We were very excited to receive our badges, which we wear with pride, so all members of the school community know who we are an Eco Team member. We have carried out litter picking on the school grounds. Recently, we noticed a build-up of litter near our school fence. However, we have decided that we want to litter pick fortnightly in order to limit the amount of litter in this area.

What have the Eco team been working on in the Spring Term?

If the Spring Term, we continued to litter pick on our school grounds. We were also very excited to hear about Blue Area’s Enquiry ‘What should you flush down the loo?’. They launched this exciting enquiry by litter picking in the school area, supported by some wonderful parent helpers. This has helped to highlight the importance of disposing of our litter in a responsibly way to ensure that our community remains a safe place for humans and animals to enjoy! The Eco Team also launched a battery recycling competition. Each area had a collection point for used batteries – Green Area’s was overflowing! We created posters to display around school to encourage people to participate. It was important to highlight the need to dispose of batteries in a safe manner.

If you have any suggestions for how we could be more Eco friendly, please let us know! We love to hear new ideas.

What has the ECO Team got planned next?

· Continue to work on our Action Plan for the year

· Continue to litter pick on the school grounds regularly

· Planting in the Spring to welcome more wildlife

· Creating posters to encourage the rest of school to be ECO friendly too!
